I have always loved thermal nail polishes – the idea that a polish can create art on its own has always been exciting to me, and it’s a perfect way for just about anyone to have special nails. For years, I have swooned over the LeChat Perfect Match Mood Color Changing Gel Polish line, so when given the opportunity to review some of their shades, I was super excited! I chose five of their thermal, soak-off gel polishes (it seems I had summertime on the mind while choosing!) and I can’t wait to share them with you.
All swatches were done with OPI Glitter Off peel-off base coat, LeChat Perfect Match Ultra-Thin Varnish Base Gel, and LeChat Perfect Match High Gloss Top Gel Sealer. Each layer was cured for 30 seconds in my OPI LED lamp. More information on those products at the end of the post.
First up is LeChat Cherry Blossom. This shimmery polish changes from a gorgeous nude when warm to a deep plum when cold. The shimmer is delicate and completely gorgeous in both states. It seemed to want to stay in the cold state on my nails, but I think that’s because it was the first polish I swatched and my hands were just extra cold! But as you can see, it’s really beautiful no matter what it’s doing. This is two coats.

LeChat Coral Caress is a creme thermal shade, transitioning from a lavender when warm to a mauve-y pink when cold. The formula is creamy and smooth and I’m really impressed with the color change! This is two coats.

LeChat Fantasea is another creme thermal. This one transitions from a milky white-toned yellow when warm to a vibrant green when cold. Again, I’m super impressed by the color change, but I did notice a bit of streakiness when it was in its warm state. This is two coats (a third might smooth out any streaks!).

The first polish I wore long-term from this selection is LeChat Island Wonder. This creme polish transitions from a bright mint when warm to a purple-mauve when warm. I am so fascinated by the range of shades that are created during the transition – you would never think that mint and mauve could work together but they do! This is two easy coats (with no peel-off base coat, since I wore it for about a week).

Finally, we have LeChat Sunset Beach. Now, considering my family travels to Sunset Beach, NC every summer, you can imagine I am really excited about this one! This shimmery polish transitions from a red-toned orange when warm to a plummy-brown when cold. The gold shimmer shines through in both states. So unique. So gorgeous! I will definitely be wearing this one on my vacation this summer! This is two easy coats.

As my nail polish addicts know, soak-off gel polishes require a bit more product and prep than a traditional manicure, but the traditional “up to 14 days of wear” promise is usually worth it. For these swatches, I used a peel-off base coat to save my nails, but when I wore Island Wonder, I skipped that step. I prepped my nails with OPI BondAid and cured in my OPI LED Lamp (yes, these polishes require curing under a LED/UV lamp…they are soak-off gel!). I’m super hard on my nails lately and ended up peeling the manicure off after a week (a big no no…shame on me!). The Perfect Match Ultra-Thin Varnish Base Gel is a great gel base coat. The short, stiff brush ensures a thin coat, helping to keep your manicure looking natural. The Perfect Match High Gloss Top Gel Sealer is super shiny and smooth. A quick wipe of alcohol across the slightly sticky inhibition layer after curing reveals a perfect manicure. I will definitely grab for these products when I wear gel manicures in the future.
I would also like to mention that LeChat has a full line of non-thermal gel polishes. The Perfect Match line is great because you get a free Dare to Wear Nail Lacquer in the matching shade with each gel polish. Perfect for touch-ups or matching pedicures (or simply to bulk up your polish collection!). The gel base and top coats came with lacquer versions as well (pictured above). This is a great option for professionals offering soak-off gel and traditional lacquer services.
Overall, I am super impressed with these gel polishes! Sunset Beach and Island Wonder are my favorites, but I am sure I will get wear out of all of them. It really amazes me how the color changes are so extreme – not just shades of the same color. And while wearing Island Wonder, I noticed changes all the time…it’s so fun! LeChat products are available through professional salons, beauty supplies, and distributors (and I’ve spotted them on amazon.com!!). Are you a thermal polish lover?!
