The indie nail polish world is huge and it moves fast – it can be really hard to keep up. I’ll be honest with you here…I don’t really keep up with it 100% anymore! However, I have brands that I love and I continue to go back to time and time again, and I am always honored when they ask me to swatch and review their polishes for them. One of those brands is ALIQUID Lacquer. Alison features the image of her dog on the label, so you know I love it! Her Summer 2016, North American bird-inspired release dropped yesterday, so let’s take a look at the ALIQUID Nail Polish Is For The Birds Collection!
All polishes in this post were swatched with KBShimmer Fillin’ Groovy Base Coat and KBShimmer Clearly On Top top coat.
First up in the ALIQUID Nail Polish Is For The Birds Collection, we have ALIQUID Lacquer Mourning Dove, which I am wearing as I type this post. This is a gorgeous taupe packed with gray and bronze flecks. The base sort of reminds me of OPI Taupe-less Beach; in some lights, it is straight-up taupe, and in others it has a lavender tone to it. The flecks are just gorgeous. This is three coats to cover a little visible nail line.
ALIQUID Lacquer Northern Flicker is a sky blue base with white, gray, navy, yellow and red matte glitters throughout. I really like the primary colors feel on this one. This is three coats.
ALIQUID Lacquer Oriole is a bold orange jelly packed with gold shimmer and flakes. It’s easy to see the inspiration show through in this polish! This is three coats, but two coats would be fine on shorter nails.
ALIQUID Lacquer Ruby-Throated Hummingbird is a white crelly-base with a gold shimmer and red and green ultrachrome and metallic flakes. I really love this one – there is so much going on! This is three coats.
ALIQUID Lacquer Starling is a dark green jelly with blue shimmer, holo glitter and ultrachrome flakes. This definitely has a mermaid feel to it! I had to be careful with application on this one to keep it looking smooth, but I think it looks fabulous with three coats.
ALIQUID Lacquer Tree Swallow is a clear holographic base with holographic and blue glitters in a variety of shapes. This is really fun and unique. First, I swatched it with three coats on its own, which could be really sweet on shorter nails, but my visible nail line really showed.
Just to be thorough, I also swatched one coat of ALQUID Lacquer Tree Swallow over KBShimmer Right A Reign to show how cool it looks layered! It has a galaxy nail feeling.
So while I used three coats for all of these swatches, the formulas were mostly easy to work with (Starling needed a light hand, but the other were great). If my visible nail line wasn’t always so obvious, I could have definitely gotten away with two coats on most of these. The shades are unique and beautiful – I just adore Mourning Dove, Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, and Northern Flicker! The ALIQUID Nail Polish Is For The Birds Collection released yesterday. 15 ml bottles retail for $10-12; 5 ml bottles for $4.50-5.50. Which shades are you going to grab?!
